YOUTH AS A DRIVER OF CHANGE
At RIL we believe that inspiration is essential to generate innovative, efficient public policies that have an impact on people's quality of life.
In this newsletter we share ideas on how local governments are implementing policies and projects to strengthen the role of youth in the city. By designing specific policies for this stage of life, a field full of opportunities is opened up so that youth can enhance their personal development, acquire skills for the future, find support spaces, improve their socio-economic situation, and as a result improve their quality of life, contributing to the present and future development of the city.
With these initiatives we seek to make visible public policies that tend to improve the lives of those who live in cities.
24-hour cities: containment of young people in the late night
Sydney, Australia
Inhabitants: 5,312.00
The “Trasnoche” Program is a containment space that works on Friday and Saturday nights. When they arrive at this space, those between 12 and 24 years old receive the welcome and attention of a social worker. In addition to offering this support, they offer recreational activities that allow them to meet peers in safe conditions and make new friends.
The program works as a comprehensive containment center: it has an educational offer, sports and cultural activities, music, video and computer skills workshops, as well as healthy food and musical shows, all in a schedule designed especially for youth.
